“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is God’s purpose that prevails” - Proverbs. 19:21
DURING 1997:
· Organization and Fund raising: 1997 was spent almost entirely in organizational work, fund-raising and staff building. Although, we led a number of seminars.
· A Book Released: “They Smell Like Sheep” was launched at Pepperdine Lectureship in April. It is being widely circulated, not only among churches of Christ, but in the larger Christian community as well. (Subsequently in 1998 Lynn Anderson taught this material at the Southern Baptist Texas State Pastor’s Planning Convention, in Dallas, Texas January 12, 1998. Also spoke at the Christian Bookseller’s Convention (Canadian Version) in Toronto, March 1998. In addition "Sheep" was taught at a number of seminars in the U.S, and abroad.
· A Church that Connects #V Seminar: went off smoothly in Tulsa, Oklahoma - September 26-28, 1997. Theme: They Smell Like Sheep: Spiritual Leadership for the 21st Century. It included Keynote lectures by six challenging speakers, plus practical breakout classes by 15 capable presenters. All of the above were chosen because they are effectively doing what they talked about, and because of their godly hearts and obvious giftedness.
DURING 1998
· The First New Mentoring Group of 12 Ministers – met with them one full day per month for 9 months, (beginning October 9, 1997 at the State Capitol building, Austin, Texas) for mentoring, coaching and equipping.
· The First New Coaching Group of Churches -. We met with the Combined Leadership and spouses of 5 congregations in Ohio for one weekend per month, for 5 months (beginning November 9, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio) to sharpen leadership, disciple building and church growth skills.
· Coaching and Equipping for a new Church planting - We did on-going consulting with the founding core group– assisting them in clarifying their purpose statement, their mission and their strategy. The core group wanted to make sure they were all “singing off the same sheet” before they invited others into their dream. We continued that coaching, consulting capacity for a year until the public meetings of the new congregation were well underway.
More than 600 people registered for seminar sessions. Some open sessions reached more than 1000. Approximately 200 congregations were represented. Feedback was overwhelmingly encouraging.
DURING 1999:
· Three Mentoring Groups: The number of groups of church leaders meeting one day per month expanded to three: One in the DFW area, one in Atlanta and one in West Tennessee. However the expanded number of groups diminished time for writing books and resources.
· “They Smell Like Sheep” Workshops: We conducted more than 20 weekend workshops for church leaders – in the US, Canada and Europe.
· Web site Launched: Our fledgling web site began, which was basically a description of the ministry and a bulletin board of Hope Network Events.
· Billy Graham Training Center: Led a 3-day interdenominational conference at The Cove, Asheville, NC on “They Smell Like Sheep.”
· Maui, Hawaii: Spent the month of November preaching for the church on Maui as well as writing.
DURING 2000:
· Six Mentoring Groups: The number of groups doubled this year. Groups met one day per month for the year in Seattle area, Denver – 2 groups, DFW, Alabama and Kentucky.
· On-going Consulting: In addition to the 6 mentoring groups, I spent two days each month with a church in Oklahoma, as a coach and consultant – as well as preaching there once per month. (which actually is more challenging and time consuming than 2 mentoring groups.) · Inter-denominational Conferences: I led conferences at Lincoln Christian College, IL with 900 ministers from Christian churches, and at Maritime Christian College, Charlotte, Prince Edward Island, Canada. I consulted with Dallas area churches of several denominations, plus led another conference at The Cove: Billy Graham Training Center. Also, I taught a class at the North American Convention of Christian Churches in Denver
· Encouraged another 2 church plantings: I spent several Wednesday evening sessions with the Light of The World Church of Christ – a new planting in Downtown Dallas. Also preached several week-ends to encourage a group who began a new congregation in Grapevine, Texas.
DURING 2001: (moved to San Antonio)
· Three Mentoring Groups: Experience from 2000 convinced us that six groups overwhelms us. So in 2001 we limited to a more workable three groups: two in Fairfax, Va (Washington, D.C.) and one in Nashville, TN.
· Conferences: Another interdenominational conference at The Cove: Billy Graham Training Center. Rochester College, Detroit – Church Leaders Conference, four state area. The Summitt: Estes Park, CO. Evangelism conference, several state area. Retreat with faculty of Harding Graduate School of Religion, Memphis, TN.
· Elders Workshops: Littleton, CO; Coppell, TX; Boulder, CO; Bastrop, TX; Paducah, KY. Plus consulting with several church leadership teams on-going.
· Writing: Regular contributor to Wineskins magazine; Completed book The Jesus Touch.
DURING 2002:
· Three Mentoring Groups: Two in Atlanta, GA, and one in Houston, TX.
· Other events and consulting: including three weeks of leadership conferences with church leaders on Australia and New Zealand.
· Writing: Worked on two books, plus writing for Wineskins and Hope Network Ministries Web site. A reduced travel schedule allowed for more focus on writing.
DURING 2003:
· Three Mentoring Groups: Nashville, TN, Sacramento, CA, and two in Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
· They Smell Like Sheep multi-media training package produced to fulfill the overwhelming amounts of request for Lynn to lead seminars based on his book. Package made available at National Shepherd’s Clinic in June.
· National Shepherd’s Clinic: June 19-21, 2003 in San Antonio. Theme: “Transitioning from Managers to Shepherds.” Presenters included Lynn Anderson, David Wray, Ronnie Norman and Chris Seidman. Over 300 church leaders attended, representing over 50 congregations.
· Longing for a Homeland: Book turned in to Howard Publishing, to be released in March of 2003. The book is about the human homesickness that looks for home in a place, a people or a persona. The pages follow Moses throughout that search, illustrating that home can only be found in the presence of God.
