About Lynn Anderson

Across 66 years of living, 44 of them in full-time ministry, God has brought me through a wide variety of experiences preparing me for and leading me to this ministry of coaching, mentoring and equipping of Christian leaders.

· Education: Junior College, Freed-Hardeman; BA, Harding University; MA, Harding Graduate School of Religion; Doctor of Ministry begun at Fuller, finished at Abilene Christian University.

· Variety of church experience: Besides planting two churches, I ministered 19 years in the pulpit of a large congregation (Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas – 2000+), and five and a half years in and intermediate-sized congregation (Preston Road Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas – 500+). Also, I have preached in evangelistic campaigns, workshops and lectureships in several hundred congregations — rural, small town, metropolitan — domestic and foreign — large and small.

· Teaching Ministry: Over the past 28 years, I served as adjunct professor at Abilene Christian University teaching Missions courses several summers and graduate courses in Ministry for 15 years. Taught ministry courses at Pepperdine University and Preston Road Center for Christian Education. Personally interned and mentored more than 100 ministers.

· Cross-cultural conditioning: I am a Canadian citizen, reared in Canada. After college years, helped plant two churches in BC across eleven years. Traveled to 30 countries, having taught and coached leaders in 15 nations. Leadership training seminars in Mexico for more than 20 years. For 35 years I have been a student of Cultural Anthropology and Cross-cultural communication.

· Network: However, my most valuable ministry tool by far is my network of excellent resource people. Through my years in the visible Highland pulpit and its large tape ministry and through the circulation of my books and journal articles, as well as teaching ministry courses, traveling, and speaking, God has blessed me with a wide network of wonderful friends. Also, I have participated in a number of inter-denominational conferences, retreats and organizations which, along with the circulation of my books, has expanded my network of Christian leaders far outside of Church of Christ circles. Some key leaders in the evangelical world continue as helpful colleagues. I often face ministry and leadership issues that I do not know how to deal with, but I know who knows. And if not, at least I know “who knows who knows,” and with a phone call or two, can tap world class Christian leadership resource persons from a wide range of expertise.

· Coaching: Over the past 15 years I have been called on increasingly by scores of ministers and numerous churches — as they sought encouragement, resources and counsel in the midst of the challenges of church leadership.

· The School Of Hard Knocks: Some people get 42 years experience. Others get one years’ experience, 42 times. I hope and pray that I may be among the former. Among our most valuable life experiences, Carolyn and I would certainly rate our hard times. No one can serve in ministry for 42 years without failing many times, humiliating oneself, and being hurt and betrayed. But God has sustained and taught us — and the joy and fulfillment exponentially outweigh the minor hassles.

· Calling: Of course, the most important credentials I possess for this ministry are a passion for serving and encouraging leaders — and a clear sense of calling from God.
